Instrument Pilot Rating
To further advance your skills as a helicopter pilot it is to your advantage to train to become an Instrument rated pilot. Flying under instrument conditions you are guided by Air Traffic Controllers along specific routes to your destination airport. The ability to fly a helicopter under instrument conditions will further increase your skill and confidence in the aircraft. For those wishing to find employment flying helicopters commercially, an instrument rating is a stipulated requirement for most commercial helicopter companies within the US and around the world.
The Instrument Pilot Rating includes:
- 30hrs of R-22 IFR Flight Experience
- 10hrs of Simulator Experience
- 10hrs of Ground Instruction
- 1 Written Test
- 1 combined Flight and Oral Test
- 1 Set of Jeppessen study books
Prior to commencing training for the Instrument rating you must already hold a Private Pilots License for a helicopter. If you already hold an airplane certificate or rating, you may be able to reduce the cost of your course if you are able to count your accrued time towards an "Add-on helicopter rating".
